Fertility and the Menstrual Cycle: East and West

Acupuncturists and Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners get asked all the time whether acupuncture can increase fertility.  The answer is a resounding YES!

How Does Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine help Fertility?

  • Regulates the menstrual cycle
    • Balances the hormones
    • Increases blood circulation throughout the body, but specifically to the uterus and ovaries
    • Stimulates the thickening of the endometrium lining

Regulating the menstrual cycle is key in ensuring fertility.  If the cycle is regular then the hormones are more easily balanced, ensuring the production of good eggs and a full endometrium lining.

Chinese Medicine at its widest point is targeting the balance of Yin and Yang.  Within the Yin and Yang balance is the dynamic flow of Qi, Blood, Body Fluids, the Organs and the Meridians.  The insertion of fine needles stimulates all of these to work in harmony.  In more complicated cases, Chinese Herbs give the body the extra boost it needs to find balance and help with other symptoms that might contribute to infertility such as PCOS, fibroids, endometriosis and other stubborn menstrual irregularities. These interventions improve Fertility and the Menstrual Cycle.
